Need funding for a major event?

The first round of applications are being called for the Thames-Coromandel District Council's Major Events Sponsorship 2015 funding.

The council wants events that provide the best economic potential and have the potential to become an iconic event on the Coromandel. Applications close on Tuesday, June 30.

The Coromandel has a number of iconic events like the annual Beach Hop, Scallop Festival and K2 Cycle Race, and a number of other smaller events now beginning to grow.

'We understand that it can take a few years to get an event up and running,” says council, 'so our Economic Development Committee will consider making funding available for up to three years with the aim that the event is sustainable beyond that time without Council funding.”

Funding is not available to cover individual wages or simply to pay volunteers.

Council expects that an event of the kind it wants to fund would have good ties with regional tourism partner Destination Coromandel, and potential to build great corporate partnerships.

To help develop your application council strongly recommends people read their Events and Economic Development Strategies and major events criteria.

All applications must include a cover letter, application form and a supporting business case/business plan.

The Economic Development Committee will make funding decisions at its meeting on August 18.
