New hat for Tauranga mayor

Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby is appointed to the board of Rotorua Regional Airport Ltd – the company that runs Rotorua International Airport.

His appointment follows a recommendation from the airport's board of directors and was confirmed on Wednesday night by the Rotorua District Council.

The appointment is a chance to create closer ties between Tauranga, the Western Bay of Plenty and with Rotorua International Airport, says Stuart.

'Ultimately there are real opportunities for regional benefits to accrue through the coordinated tourism and visitor industry activities of the Central Park marketing initiative,” says Stuart.

Rotorua Mayor Kevin Winters says he's particularly pleased his Tauranga counterpart is able to accept a position on the airport board.

'The airport is a truly regional facility and it's being utilised by people from throughout the whole Bay of Plenty,” says Kevin.

'Numbers have been increasing at a very encouraging rate since the airport gained international status 12 months ago when Air New Zealand started a twice weekly direct trans-Tasman service from Sydney.

'Stuart has the confidence and respect of our council and of the airport company.

'We welcome his input as a director and we look forward to the different perspective he will bring to the boardroom from his in-depth knowledge of Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty.”

The Rotorua airport company intends further developing the airport as a successful business, and as a catalyst for boosting tourism and economic growth for the whole region, says Kevin.

'There are exciting opportunities ahead for our tourism sector and for the economies of the Bay of Plenty.”

Rotorua International Airport is owned by Rotorua District Council and run by the board and management team of Rotorua Regional Airport Ltd.

The other directors are businessman and developer Ray Cook, chairman, chartered accountant Bill Kingi, Rotorua District Councillor Jeff Kenny and RDC chief executive Peter Guerin.

The members of the Tauranga Airport Committee are: Councillor Bill Faulkner, chairman, Councillor Catherine Stewart, Councillor David Stewart, Frank Wright,
Andrew Gormlie and Philip Thompson.

Wrong headline

It should read: New earnings for mayor. Nothing like a little moonlighting with business chums, eh? Hope Stuart finds enough time within his busy schedule as Tauranga mayor. Is his voluptuous council salary cut by the amount of time he spends on his new side job?

huh

isnt that double dipping

Cock Up

I wonder if his influence (bad decisions) will cost Rotorua ratepayers as much as they do Tauranga ratepayers.

Wrong message

Doesn't Tauranga have its own airport that was extended some years ago to accomodate international flights and wasn't Mayor Crosby on the Airport Committee. What exactly is Crosby now doing on the Rotorua International Airport. How much money is he paid and why is he not devoting his full attention to TCC affairs not that he is much of a success at that either. The whole thing is wrong and like Deputy Mayor Stewart he can't do two jobs -struggles with one

THE MARCH BEGINS

Posted on 23-12-2010 09:47 | By The Master

The Crosby critters are to begin the job of infiltration of adjoining councils, the purpose is in readiness for the regional merger of all BOP councils into one. Of course Mayor Crosby stated that "being a Councillor is a full time job, you have no time to do anything else ..." however what one says and what one does are two different things. There is sure to be a "wee" directors fee in it, to supplement the $123,000 salary, mayoral car, credit card, and the odd ratepayer funded slush funds all just as needed for any incidental spend up.

One man one job TCC ?

Posted on 27-12-2010 08:04 | By Ratcatcher

Isn't this the same hypocrite who said being a TCC Councillor is a full time job you can't do two jobs. Then promptly turned around and accepted Deputy Mayor Stewart swanning around on District Health Board @ $30000pa and now adding insult to injury finds his way onto Rotorua Airport board. If he is so keen on Rotovegas then move there he will be no loss to Tauranga City looking at the track record

MAYORAL SWAP !

Posted on 28-12-2010 15:07 | By The Master

Guess that means we get Rotorua's Mayor appearing somewhere on some director fee swap deal, more director fees for all, could I suggest the Southern Sewerage Pipeline ... next stop Rotorua.

BENT HATS REAPPEARED

Wizards have hats that are bent right ?

THE MAYORS HAT

Posted on 29-12-2010 19:03 | By The Master

It is actually bent to the left as he as he wears red socks and belongs to labour.

Emperors new clothes

Would a ''new hat'' cover a head case decision like this when a brown paper bag would do the trick.Being overpaid by Tauranga to do the job full time at TCC not take secondary employment at Rotorua Airport for RDC baggage.

BENT HATS AND OTHER USEFUL ITEMS

Posted on 31-12-2010 10:54 | By The Master

The hat is only bent at the top. The rest of the hat must be "stiff as" to hold it up, there must be a wide brim to allow for the run-off.

OLD HAT TARTED UP

Posted on 31-12-2010 11:35 | By TERMITE

Is the only option as that will cost more than any other sensible option that a sensible person would do.

NEW HAT, KNEW THAT!

Posted on 31-12-2010 11:37 | By The Master

Full of rocks I am sure if not before then certainly when fitted to the head, heavy, expensive but in end result "SAME SAME".

YET ANOTHER CCO REQUIRED

Posted on 31-12-2010 11:40 | By The Master

I know ... Council needs a new CCO to design, build and own the "HAT". The name could be CGAF #2 Ltd, can then pay $400,000 for it and add that to teh Council debt also.

AND THE MAYOR SAID ...

Posted on 01-01-2011 09:34 | By The Master

All Councillors have a full time job just being a Councillor. So the Mayor has a new job in Rotorua and as that is more than 30kms away I am sure he will want mileage claims, meal allowances, overtime payments, shift allowances and a motel on standby just in case he needs it for even more nighttime meetings that may arise at short notice.

STEW-IT UP BRO

Posted on 01-01-2011 17:06 | By TERMITE

Yeah and Deputy Mayor David Stewart is also in on the same double dipping scheme at the DHB $30,000 + a year there as well.

OLD HAT

Posted on 01-01-2011 17:08 | By TERMITE

So if the Mayor has a "NEW HAT" in Rotorua then the Deputy Mayor must have the "OLD HAT". Does that mean it is past its use by date ?

TRIPLE DIP - WATCH THIS SPACE

Once they get a taste of the extra lolly then there will be no limits to what happens next, triple, quadruple ... it is all about LESS 4 MORE. Less work and more money, the TURKEYS get to pay for it all.

BENT HAT - TIP OF THE ICEBERG

And with global warming guess what is going to happen next. The berg melts and all is revealed.

OLD HAT INDEED

Posted on 03-01-2011 19:59 | By TERMITE

Bet ya that the Mayor and deputy are lining up a cunning plan here ... to pretend that all is fine and dandy, but really Cr Deputy David Stewart is trying out the new hat ready for his next move, to take over the world.

MAYOR LOST HIS JOB?

Posted on 03-01-2011 20:04 | By TERMITE

Why I am sure the Mayor was on the Tauranga Airport committee before the election, is Tauranga not good enough for the Mayor? Has all the free land already been given away and nothing is left so time to move on in every sense of the word.

THE WANDERINGS OF A MARE
