No council switch for Waihi Beach

Waihi Beach is to remain a ward of the Western Bay of Plenty District Council after the Local Government Commission has today released its decision on the proposed move to the Hauraki District.

Waihi Beach.

A group of constituents in the area initiated a referendum on the issue following the 2008 local government elections.

These constituents sought a move of authority for their ward to the Hauraki District Council, but the Local Government Commission has denied this request.

Commission CEO Donald Riezebos says a switch would not promote good local government of Western Bay of Plenty District and Hauraki District.

It's it interesting that these people sitting in Wellington do not appear to take the views of the rate-paying public into account. Perhaps Donald Riezebos could explain what his comment rearly means. Sounds like a lot of hot air.
