Second round of funding now open

If you're looking to establish a major event on the Coromandel you could be eligible for money from the Major Events Sponsorship fund.

The Thames-Coromandel District Council says the second round of applications for the year will be closing on Friday, October 23.

Council is looking for events that provide the best economic potential and have the possibility of becoming an iconic event on the Coromandel.

'The Coromandel has a number of iconic events such as the annual Beach Hop, Scallop Festival and K2 Cycle Race, and a number of other smaller events now beginning to grow,” says council.

'We understand it can take a few years to get an event up and running and so our Economic Development Committee will consider making funding available for up to three years, with the aim that the event is sustainable beyond that time without council funding.”

Major Events Sponsorship funding is not available to cover individual wages or simply to pay volunteers.

Council adds it also expects events they want to fund will have good ties with regional tourism partner Destination Coromandel, along with the potential to build great corporate partnership.

To lodge an application event organisers will be required to submit a cover letter, application form, plus a supporting business case or plan.

Applications can be submitted in strict confidence by emailing: customer.services@tcdc.govt.nz or by post to:
