Bylaws and Compliance team leader Steve Hart says the husky was being held pending prosecution for allegedly attacking and killing lambs and sheep in the Kauaeranga Valley area.
'We understand the dog was selectively taken as there were nine dogs in the pound at the time and the husky was the only one removed,” explains Steve.
Since the break-in council has completed a number of security improvements to the pound, along with additional monitoring of the facility after hours.
Steve add they've also been in contact with the dog's owner about the situation.
'We need to have the dog recovered and we're asking the public to help us with its whereabouts. Any calls or information will be taken in confidence.”
Anyone with information should contact the Thames Police 07-867-9600 or call the Thames-Coromandel District Council on 07-868-0200.
