Lions invite public to tree grove

Bay of Plenty Lions Clubs are inviting people to visit their Lions Tree Grove at the TECT All Terrain Park this Saturday afternoon.

Since September 2012, more than 6000 New Zealand native trees have been planted in a 2.4 hectare area of the park that was once exotic pine forest. Saturday's event is to showcase this work to the public.

Known as 'Lions Tree Grove”, the area has been developed with walking tracks and park benches by a number of Lions Clubs in and around the Bay of Plenty, spearheaded by the Lions Club of Ngongotaha, with financial help from various local Charitable Trusts.

The aim is for future generations to enjoy the New Zealand fauna and flora with the wildlife that it attracts.

People are encouraged to walk through the Lions Tree Grove and picnic on the grassed area whenever they wish. The grove has already been the venue for a number of events, including an open-air concert.

On Saturday, October 31 from 2pm, people will have the opportunity to walk around the Lions Tree Grove.

The meeting point for the walk is at the grassed area of the Lions Tree Grove, above the carpark situated by 'Adrenalin Forest” on Te Ara O Raha Road, at the end of Weld Road.

TECT All Terrain Park entrance is situated on Whataroa Road, Highway 36 (Tauranga/Rotorua Direct Road).
