Joining trinity Roots on the night will be the irrepressible eight-piece band B2KDA, while renowned DY Lyrakill will headline on the DJ-only iHeart Radio Beach Stage.

Strategic and City Events manager Pip Loader says the performances are part of council's programme which offers a wide range of events and entertainment.

'We are delighted to bring Kiwi platinum-selling New Zealand artists Trinity Roots to Tauranga with its unique sound of soul-influenced reggae, along with the irrepressible B2KDA who will kick off the night for us,” she says.

'DJ Lyrakill, one of New Zealand's most renowned club DJs, will headline on the iHeart Radio Beach Stage from 9pm.”

This New Year's Eve programme kicks off at 6pm to 9.30pm with a family-friendly range of performances, movies and more at the Mount Drury Family Stage, so the little ones don't miss out.

From 8pm, B2KDA and Trinity Roots will celebrate the last night of the year with live music on the The Hits Street Stage. DJ Lyrakill and other DJs will continue the celebration on the beach until 1am.

Tauranga will welcome the 2016 with a countdown and a blast of fireworks, lit up from Mount Drury and from the Tauranga waterfront at midnight.

Trinity Roots Drummer Ben Wood says he's looking forward to playing at New Zealand's prime location for New Year's Eve celebrations and summer holidays.

'With all the holiday makers and party goers looking for a good time, it's an opportunity for Trinity to be a part of an awesome New Year's Eve experience,” he says.

'We want to help make it a memorable one for as many people as possible.”

B2KDA bassist Alex Urlich adds that playing in Tauranga is always special, but it was especially significant this year.

'We have a new member, Joel Shadbolt, who is a born and bred Tauranga native and our MC Paaka Davis has also relocated to Tauranga,” says Alex, 'so we are starting to build up quite a connection to the city.”

Mayor Stuart Crosby says NYE in Tauranga was a special event for the city and this year's celebration would have something for everyone.

He adds that council is proud to bring this high-class event to Tauranga, which enhances the already vibrant summer event scene.

'It's easy to see why Tauranga's beaches have been voted the best in New Zealand, proving popular for families and friends to welcome in the New Year,” says Stuart.

'Our events team is working hard to ensure everyone can enjoy a safe environment for an unforgettable start to the New Year.”
