Mayor Stuart Crosby is denying reports an announcement on Tauranga City Council's new CEO is imminent.
'It won't be tomorrow because we have only today settled on the referee checks, the number of people,” says Stuart.
Mayor Stuart Crosby.
'That will take a few days to go through. I would still say best guess a week of yesterday.
'The next step is we are doing all the checks, qualifications checks things like that.
'Then we do a reference check on certain people, so things are progressing quickly, but I would still say a week to 10 days.”
The candidate is currently employed in another New Zealand territorial local authority, says Stuart.
'And that's all I'm going to tell you.”
The new man is a replacement for former CEO Stephen Town who resigned last July to take up a position with the NZ Transport Agency in Auckland.
Former deputy CEO Christine Jones has been acting CEO since Stephen's departure.

Hey this is a different yarn

About 2 weeks ago it was said the TCC CEO job appointment was to be done and dusted this week. What Mayor Crosby fails to say is that apparently the first choice candidate when offered the appointment didn't accept it.Councillors are now on to the second choice trying to use their powers of persuasion to cajole the runner up.Why can't the Crosby Council ever be up front with the Tauranga public who are after all their employers.

Who wants Greg Hill?
CEO process must respect the privacy of applicants
Posted on 31-03-2011 12:14 | By Murray.Guy
Applications were sought, many received, and a very robust process identified a shortlist of candidates elected members unanimously considered well qualified to meet the needs of our Council, all with varying strengths. Next comes the negotiations, to determine the final selection - the hard part. How anyone can be of the belief that these processes should be held in the public arena defies belief. Rarely have I purchased my first car of choice.

We could draw the conclusion that it is not one of the unsuccessful candidates of the last election... 'The candidate is currently employed in another New Zealand territorial local authority, says Stuart.
BRING BACK STEPHEN

We all appreciated the leadership skills he had. I can not understand why anyone would even consider anyone else.

murray guy~~Don't flatter yourself no sane person wants anything to do with your Council or its processes. The CEO selection process whether it is flawed or not is entirely up to TCC Councillors and never fear if they get it wrong yet again they will be continually reminded of that blunder .Currently it is better for Mayor Crosby or Councillors not to say anything about the CEO selection until the CEO is finally chosen and has accepted the position.Otherwise you get egg all over your face and look silly especially when you make excuses and fob off the further time delays.TCC have had since July 2010 to sort out this appointment .Most of the thinking public have already guessed whats happened to date and are having a bit of a chuckle about it all.
LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DAWNING SUN

One day the Sun will arise again over Tauranga, that day is many away, between now and then will be many a day of 'grinding of teeth', 'snarling', 'winning' and other painful inappropriate sounds and gestures as the truth is realised and die is cast. Then and only then can the return path be plotted by willing and ABLE parties towards the light of day again.
IDENTITY TO BE KNOWN SOON

It will not be long as would suspect that the candidate that rejected the job most likely will go to WBOPDC as way less attention than at TCC.
MURRAY MUMBLES ...

Can not have faith in the system or process when you have disasters like: Baypark purchase costs $2.5m pa, Baypark Arena building that will cost about $5m+ pa, Mt Hot Pools failure that still cost $3m or so for what? Do you see the pattern here Murray? Perhaps you should look at the "process" as it seems to only know how to fail.
NEW HOTAL PLANS AT BAY COURT

Looks like the TCC land is to be "given" away for a 160 odd room hotel and conference centre. The conference center will no doubt be paid for and funded by ratepayers AGAIN. More debt and looses are coming your way.
Certain 2 fail

Well Master for once I will have to bow to your greater knowledge about the TCC financials although I would have put the annual holding costs for the TCC disasters at closer to $15 mill+ pa .It just doesn't seem that TCC always fail in fact they never succeed at anything they do.What a record to aspire to .If anyone can think of any TCC success then post a blog so we can all enjoy it
Mess MINDER?

I don't understand what all the fuss is about, we don't actually need a CEO, like when we had one the mess just got bigger and bigger, even now without one the mess is still getting bigger anyway. The obvious conclusion is a CEO or not makes no difference to anything so why waste all this time and $500,000 odd a year on what?
