The identity of Tauranga City Council's new chief executive may be announced later this week, says Mayor Stuart Crosby.
A candidate has been chosen for the job and the council is just going through processes, says Stuart.
'I know referee checks are underway, so that's where we are at,” says Stuart. 'Negotiations, salary etc, have been underway, it's just a process.”
He's hoping there might be an announcement by the end of the week.
'It might be Friday with a bit of luck. I can't give a definite date because it is a matter of getting hold of referees, going through that process. It's not far away that's for sure.”
Former CEO Stephen Town resigned last July to take up a position with the NZ Transport Agency in Auckland.
Former deputy CEO Christine Jones has been acting CEO since Stephen's departure.

So offering the job, being accepted, then oh well hummmmm check out the references ... like when, last time it was all done known and the job contiuned for 8 years? Like this is the same situation as the NZ Naval Basis in Devonport, surely TCC can do a little better than a few JAFFA's ... only difference they figureed it out in 5 years. DING DONG

Hurry up it will be Xmas again soon.If Councillors can't get their act together let the Ratepayers Association have a go.Say a TCC CEO earns around $1m for a 3year contract and it takes 6months to select him how come it only takes a few minutes or hours to make momentous ruinous financial decisions on the TCC THINK BIG SCHEMES ?

Ahhhh none I see why it all went so wrong eight years ago, they check the referees and not the applicant. We have all paid dearly ever since and there is more to come.
