Tauranga City Council is planning to remove two large trees from Coronation Park to improve visibility into the park from the roadside.
Other vegetation clearance work will also be undertaken at the corner of the park (by Maunganui Road and Salisbury Avenue).
The council's aim is to increase visibility into the central area of the reserve for public safety.
Once this work is completed, further vegetation clearance work will be done at the Nikau Crescent end of the reserve.
Again, this is to address public safety and security issues.
The clearance will also better showcase specimen trees, including Kauri and Puriri.
This information from Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin for the week beginning, Monday, April 18, published below.
City Waters
Water Supply
- The water main upgrade in the Matua area has works currently underway in Levers Road, Clivedene Street and Strathmore Street.
- Watermain construction has started in Papamoa Beach Road from Domain Road to Palm Springs Boulevard.
- Remedial erosion protection works will soon commence at the Oropi water intake.
Drainage
- A minor overflow occurred this week near the Chapel Street Wastewater Treatment Plant. The overflow was not raw effluent; it was wastewater that had been through the complete treatment process. Normally this treated water is pumped to the Te Maunga wetlands and then out to sea 1km off shore. In this case the water was incorrectly pumped from a clarifier tank into the stormwater system during a maintenance procedure.
- A wastewater overflow occurred at Darraghs Road on Thursday. It spilled a small amount of sewage to an adjacent a well-vegetated wetland and did not make it to the nearby estuary.
- A slip adjacent to the Cambridge Road Park wastewater pumpstation has been repaired this week and the sump outlet on Cambridge Road above the slip has been extended to prevent further washouts.
- The overland flow path at the end of Twin Oaks Ave has been reformed in conjunction with landscaping for a new house. Modifications to the kerb and road sumps will take place in the next week or two to allow ease of access for vehicles into adjacent properties.
- Gully trap inspections and smoke testing of wastewater connections is about to start in the Topaz Drive area of Papamoa. Initial work to locate and gain access to wastewater manholes has been completed.
- Noxious trees have been removed from an area in the Merivale Stormwater Pond Reserve.
- A tomo area at the end of an overland flow path off meadowland st has been filled in this week. It was adjacent to the walkway in the Matua Saltmarsh reserve.
Southern Pipeline:
- Pipe laying in Oropi Road has reached Greerton Park.
- Directional drilling of Oropi Road Hill between Greerton Park and Chadwick Road and Fraser Street between Esk St and Baycroft Ave has commenced.
- Pipelaying is continuing down Fraser Street north of Chadwick Road.
Parks and Leisure
- Mauao - A helicopter will fly the Mount on Tuesday morning as part of repair and reconstruction work on the Oruahine Track.
- The second stage of Memorial Park Playground re-paint was completed this week. The third stage of painting is programmed to begin after the school holidays.
- The last of the summer roses are now on show at Robbins Park, and next door at the Tropical Display House is a colourful display of pendulous begonias.
City Projects
- Arataki Community Centre - The floor slab is being poured this week which will be followed by tilt panels being constructed for the walls of the building.
- Beach Road Walkway Repairs - The seawall itself is nearing completion, the new walkway should be finished in another two weeks.
- McLaren Falls Visitor Centre - The roof is on and windows have been installed, the contractors will be starting on external cladding and internal wall linings over the next week.
Transportation
- Devonport Road: Work on the Southern Pipeline continues. Vehicle access to Devonport Road at the intersection of 15th Avenue is restricted. Drivers should use an alternative route if possible. The progress of work along Devonport Road and at 18th Avenue remains affected by pipe supply from Christchurch.
- Gravatt Road: For safety reasons the bus stop near Pak n' Save has been moved to Domain Road next to KFC.
- Hairini Link Advanced Works: Work continues on a new handrail for the south side of the Turret Road Bridge. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to take care.
- Maunganui Road: Work to install a new pedestrian crossing on Maunganui Road outside the Mount Library continues. Please take care when driving through the area.

- Osprey Drive: Work to remove a set of existing speed cushions has been delayed but is expected to start by the end of the month.
- Pyes Pa Bypass: Work on the new roundabout on SH36 near the Crematorium continues. Please take care and allow extra time for your travel. The roundabout is expected to be fully functional later this month.
- Tara Road: Work Tara Road continues. The work site is adjacent to Gordon Spratt Reserve. Please take care and expect delays.

TCVL must be feeling left out of having its own 'secret meetings' so has to make its own this week. perhaps the now defunct Massage rooms plan is to be relocated to Baypark Arena? If so then the 'shed" may have some small use after all.
Depends who you know

City Arborist must be on leave as he would never allow healthy trees to get the chop.Quick call the tree police before the mood spreads.

There are to many 'old trees' that need hacking back into shape or placing in another retirement home where you pay, not get paid. Need to start at the top of the hill there for sure.
