A Bay Hopper bus driver is furious Tauranga City Council allowed water spraying to be carried out near the Willow Street transport depot today while hundreds of passengers were getting on and off buses.
The driver, who only wanted to be known as Dave, says passengers have been getting wet and the truck belonging to the water sprayers is causing buses to clog Willow Street.
A contractor spraying the Tauranga City Council building today.
'Who is the idiot who sanctioned these people to do this all day when there are hundreds of people getting on and off the buses?” says Dave.
'They are trying to promote public transport – they spend a fortune on it and now they have some guy there bloody water blasting the overhang on the windows.”
The driver says a number of passengers getting off his bus were blanketed in spray from the contractors working nearby.
'I think it's ludicrous, where is the sense? It's unacceptable for a transport depot.”
Tauranga City Council was unavailable for comment.

Wet Day

Of course a great day to wash windows it is raining no dust blowing and the rain will take it all away. But as the driver said who was the idiot that sanctioned it? Council not available to make comment - rubbish to scared to. Time someone fronted and good on the driver for speaking out. The company washing needs to be named and shamed as well.
Couple a Questions ?
Posted on 11-05-2011 16:52 | By Tony
What did it cost? Did it need to be done this year? Was it part of or built into the major works in Willow st over the last 2 years? Was it a Tauranga company doing the work ?
Cleaning to be done..

Perfect day for cleaning down buildings. Possibly a bit of bad judgement by the contractor in not avoiding wetting people disembarking and embarking onto buses, Im sure it was unintentional, perhaps a molehill being made into a mountain. There seems to be a lot of anti council complainers visiting this site. Perhaps they should have stood up and run for council when the opportunity arose instead of continuing to bag them.

Several idiots here depending on which building it is but for purposes of this exercise lets assume it is Council Chambers. 1 the clown that authorised it 2.the bus driver for not going to TCC reception and demanding it ceased 3. the contractor for continuing with the work 4.bus passengers for putting up with it 5.Council & Councillors for ever putting the bloody Bus Centre in Willow St.6. Anyone else involved.

The council officers, elected members and/or the Mare .. Could not organise a boooze up at a local bar, or a park up at their car park. WHY?? Cos they (councillors and boff head bureaucrats) have never been challenged to stand up or shut up!! Prove me wrong... anyone?? N Barker "Citizens Monitoring Council"

Ngaere, I suspect a couple of these anonymous contributors did nominate. I recall some spending up to $20,000 to achieve that objective and failing - a resource few have the benefit of. While I reject the obvious uninformed and offensive claptrap that finds it's way in to these feedback opportunities provided by SUNLIVE, I celebrate the no cost, unedited opportunity to read of folks thoughts regardless of their support or otherwise of council matters, and community issues.
Sigh

People, this is what is known as a "first world problem".
Murray Guy ?
Posted on 12-05-2011 08:02 | By tabatha
And Murray as an elected member of the Council I thought you might have added an answer to why all this happened. The elected members are employed by the electors and therefore have a job to see and speak for them, not for their own personal gain as appears often. Where is your answer to the happening.
It's nice isn't it?

By the way, to all the grumblers and lugrubrious moaners, you have to admit that it's a nice place to live where the top news story is "people get wet from careless waterblasting". Things could be a lot worse, don't you think? Move on with life people.
SQUIRTING INDISCRIMINATELY

Sounds like the spending habits of an habitual TCC staff member acting like a headless chock.

Tabatha asks why as a city councillor I wasn't able to provide answers to some of the questions raised. Elected members have a governance role, staff have an operational role. I have long advocated for greater governance oversight of operational activities (similar to central government with portfolios of interest for MP's) to no avail. This philosophy I suspect is very threatening to those who hold the reins, sign the checks! In the meantime I have to live with information largely being provided at the discretion of the(acting)CEO and Mayor, and or by my own investigation.
What the???

People do understand that it was raining yesterday right?? So regardless of water blasting they would get wet anyway...oh well, I guess it's always nice to have a reason to bag Council...

It was raining anyway, so not really sure why this is such a big issue...or is this just and easy way to bag Council

I'm not sure whether I should be amused or sad at the article & some of the comments. Just shows what an intolerant society we have become. Surely there are more important things to worry about than a bit of water spray flying around. If the bus driver, as reported, was 'infuriated' by such an occurrence, one wonders whether he has the right temperament to be driving public transport.
THE A-TEAM
Posted on 12-05-2011 14:03 | By WORMTONGUE
Murray you then are not part of the A-team? If you were then the informaiton would be available before it happened and you would be included in the pre-determined decision process. As you are not then that means you get to read about it like the rest of us 'mere-mortals'!

RAINING v SQUIRTING?

The rain has it, the rest is moaning, if you stand outside on a wet day you get wet, try using a raincoat or something.

Bag Council come on who would bother to do that? .No point TCC always shoot themselves in the foot so the only inevitable conclusion is they obviously use always their heads and after all its the little things that count at Council Chambers.
