Hot pools close for repairs

The Mount Maunganui Hot Pools are closed indefinitely to enable emergency work to repair underground pipes.

This closure comes after the pools were tested on Monday following a citizen driven meeting held there on Sunday to discuss concerns about the pools' ailing condition.

Mount Maunganui Hot Pools are closed.

This included discussion about the temperature regulation of the pools.

Tauranga City Council is reporting the closure is required to allow the digging up of a section of concrete concourse between the passive and learner pools.

The closure is expected to last several weeks.

More about the hot pools on Wednesday on SunLive.

well done you citizens that organised this to happen. **"following a citizen driven meeting held there on Sunday"** I have been saying for some now now "United We Stand ~ Divided We Fall" You have done very well congratulations. And in fairness thanks also to the councillors that attended. Of course it is acknowledged that the Mayor had an apology in ... *yawns* Free & nice Stu is there ~ Controversy tho & Stu's off like a hare. "Citizens Monitoring Council"

Would not be over the moon about this looks like a payback for all the complaining.Has anyone in TCAL said that all the in ground repairs and /or renewal of piping etc will be done now or is it just a patch up job until it fails again ?

Typical, the 'public' bring to the attention of the over paid and vastly to numerous pointy heads that the water is 'cold', so what do they do next ... 'reaction-action' hit panic mode and shut the door.

Oh bother

My arts and social group had planned to drink our lattes at the Mount next week, followed by a relaxing swim at the pools and doing a sketch or two of Mauao. Now we will have to find another activity instead. But its about time the facilities were brought up to standard for us users. I don't want to see any increased charges though and was wondering when the pool re-opens, if the admission system could be reconsidered.I favour the art gallery method, where you simply make a donation at the end of your experience.
