Works to slow Takitimu Drive

Work to reconstruct the section of State Highway 2A from under the Route K over bridge to the Takitimu Drive over bridge near 15th Avenue is due to start this week.

Tauranga City Council is reporting the work is expected to take about six weeks to complete.

Takitimu Drive roundabout intersection with Elizabeth Street.

Minor delays are expected as traffic will be reduced to one lane for much of the time.

This information from Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin for the week beginning Monday, June 6, published below.

City Waters

Water Supply:

  • The water main upgrade in the Matua area has works currently underway in Levers Road.
  • Pipe-work is currently being connected up in Ngatai Road and Vale Street ready for testing.
  • Water main renewal works on Maunganui Roadd between Nikau and Rata Streets, to be completed by 24 June.
  • Water main upgrade works on Panorama Drive and Kaitemako Road, to be completed by 17 June.
  • Water main renewal work on Whiore Ave is now underway, completion due by mid June.

Drainage

  • Repairs to the damaged sewer pipeline in the reserve between Cypress Street and Bell Street are still ongoing and waiting for some pipe fittings. However, the temporary flow by-pass pumping operations are maintaining the flows. Approximately 80m of pipeline is needing to be replaced. Poor and wet ground conditions are hindering repair progress.
  • The open drain off Brook Street is to be cleaned ahead of some landscape planting planned for this area.

Stormwater Pollution:

  • Next week we will be trialling some inflatable pollution incident warning signs for use in high profile areas like Pilot Bay. (Bad weather postponed last week's planned trial.)
  • No pollution incidents were reported to council this week.

Parks and Leisure

Two tree planting days on Saturday, June 4:

  • Arbor Day planting morning at Gordon Carmichael Reserve, meet 10am at the Carmichael Road playground. If raining the planting day will be postponed until the following Saturday.
  • First Mauao Care Group working bee is on Saturday 4th June, 10am to noon. We will be planting, so please bring sturdy closed footwear and warm clothes, and a water bottle if you wish. Tools, plants and advice will be supplied. There will be morning tea supplied afterwards.

  • Work continues on Mauao base track reconstruction and repair. A section of stone wall that required repair to the foundations is now stable enough to allow contractor access to other parts of the base track. Still aiming to have public access for the whole base track available in August, whether it is via a temporary or permanent solution to some of the bigger slips.
  • The old flagpole from the Monmouth Redoubt, which has been located behind the Church at the Historic Village since the 1980s, was recently taken down, restored and re-erected on the Faulkner House site at the Historic Village as per direction from elected members December 2009. The flagpole will continue to be managed by Heritage Collection staff.
