Wastewater treatment volumes are at all-time high levels in Tauranga with 31,493 cubic metres of wastewater treated in May this year.
This is the highest monthly figure in the last 11 months – surpassing the normal peak in January, the busy holiday period, when this year there were 31,193 cubic metres treated.
The May figure is a reflection on a wet month, with details about it to be presented to the Tauranga City Council's projects and monitoring committee meeting today.
At the presentation, the council's drainage service manager Graeme Dohnt is expected to talk about how the May spike was caused by rainwater getting into the wastewater system.
Also to be discussed at this meeting is how wet weather has delayed drainage works about the city, including at Bell Gully and Te Awaiti Place.
Other wastewater figures to be presented are that there were 24 sewerage overflows in the 1069km area of Tauranga City Council wastewater pipes over the last 11 months with 17 of them into waterways.
There were 92 blockages caused by a build up of fat, rags and roots in pipes and manholes.
Today's meeting also includes 11 month reports on other council activities including the Southern Pipeline project, the airport and CBD and neighbourhood revitalisation.
That report includes updates on the waterfront project and Coronation Pier.
The present state of play, according to the report is resource consent for Coronation Pier, is now appeal-free and the swing moorings have been moved.
Council's made decisions in relation to the length of tenure it would grant to Coronation Pier in confidential in early June 2011. These decisions are being communicated to the council's private sector partner and will then be made public.
The report on building and information services shows consents issued for May 2011 are the highest they have been for three years.

To gove away even more public assets to private individuals, Baypark was like that and look what kind of mess that is, was and will always be.

Its like the bloody Scarlet Pimpenel you seek it here you seek it there and viola it turns up under your nose as wastewater . What the hell would Coronation Pier be doing it in the septic department To be fair it is a load of secret sh** and should be consigned to the Southern Pipeline which has also made a guest appearance.

Clear as mud I reckon on both teh Coronation Pier DEBARCLE and the sewer mess. The latter that were meant to have check the storm water going into the sewers and so fixed that problem, looks like another heap of $$$ out for no result and os the losses get bigger and bigger so adding more to the rates for no reason.
