Ponds meeting re-call

A council committee meeting called off last month because of lack of interest will have its second chance this week.

The Wastewater Management Review Committee meeting on July 26 had to be called off under council rules because there were wasn't a quorum available ten minutes after the advertised start time.

The agenda included a 45 talk on the status of the Te Maunga oxidation ponds, with a view to their current state and what works may be required in the near future to cope with the increased load when the southern pipeline comes on stream.

Also on the agenda is hearing an application from interested parties for a share of $250,000 set aside by the council to monitor the adverse effects of the city's sewerage system.

When the committee chairman councillor Murray Guy was forced to vacate the chair on July 27, the only other committee members present were councillor Bill Grainger, and Matire Duncan and Colin Reeder from the Nga Potiki hapu.

Councillor Rick Curach put in an apology for lateness. Councillor Bill Faulkner was overseas at the time as the council was in recess. Reon Tuanau and Carlton Bidois also failed to attend or place apologies.

The Wastewater Management Review Committee is required to meet a minimum of twice yearly.

Other council committee meetings scheduled this week include the Projects and monitoring committee meeting on Monday at 1pm, with a 2.5 hour presentation on the Mount Hot Pools scheduled. At the Strategy and Policy Committee meeting at the same time on Tuesday, the agenda includes the draft aquatic strategy for public consultation.

Councillor Bill Faulkner was overseas and that is fine so long as someone advised the Committee Chairman of this and it seems they didn't.To say the Council was in recess is complete unadulterated bulls*** there would not be Council Committee meetings if that were the case.Would Cr. Faulkner on reflection care to issue a retraction of that claim ! I am sick and tired of reading this sort of stuff.

Guess that one was rather lucky to survivie the :Turkey Shoot" not long ago, guess that has something to do with the the swan being in the middle of the sewerage pond so somewhat out of "reach"!
