Dune planting season ends

Tauranga City Council is reporting planting for this season is complete on the dunes in Papamoa East.

The project is community driven and its success can be seen at Karewa Parade, which has now been planted for a full year.

The council is encouraging the community and visitors to enjoy the dunescape along the Karewa Parade foreshore.

Motiti Road and Taylor Road is expected to be well established this time next year – just like the Karewa Parade dunes.

This information from Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin for the week beginning Monday, October 3, published below.

City Waters

Water Supply:

  • The upgraded water main in Bureta is operational. Finishing work is underway for the footpath and roading in Vale Street.

  • The new water main in the Otumoetai area is being connected next week.

  • Tauranga City Council has finished replacing 309 water meters in the Windermere and Bell Road area as part of a trial of a new type of water meter (Automated Meter Reading Trial – also known as AMR).

  • Water main break on Elizabeth Street last night. This caused disruption of service to a small number of residents for a short period.

Drainage

  • Three reported sewer blockages were attended to this week. None caused an overflow to any water way.

  • The Maru street wastewater pump station is to have the rising main high pressure cleaned to help keep the flows to correct level. This station due to product discharging into it has fat built up requiring this scheduled cleaning.

Parks and Leisure

  • A new city park sign for Sydenham Botanic Park was donated and installed by a local businessman this week. The council has earlier agreed that a trust will be set up to develop the park. There is a presentation to council on 26 October at which staff will offer the councillors a proposed model for how such a trust will operate. The next step after that will be to establish the trust.

  • Mauao: Vegetation control on the summit bluffs will be taking place over the next few weeks. There will be some track closures and signage will be in place.

  • K Valley: Contractors will be completing this week the planting of 2200 native trees and shrubs adjacent to the northern Route K area, near 17th Avenue.

  • The Tom Muir Drive Walkway has had repair work to level the surface this week.

  • A final section of the Scantlebury Street walkway/cycleway is being formalised into a gravel pathway this week.

City Projects

  • Very successful opening of the Arataki Community Centre this week with around 300 people attending. A positive response from all involved and public recognition of the integral relationship that Council has had with the Arataki community to develop the centre.

Transportation

  • Annual Resealing Programme: Asphalt resealing work is underway on various streets around the city.

  • Cameron Road and Eleventh Avenue: Work to upgrade the Cameron Road, 11th Avenue, St John Street and Christopher Street intersections to improve traffic flow and safety is underway. The work will take about ten weeks to complete. Some of the work will be done at night to minimise disruption. Access to businesses in the area will be maintained at all times. Please expect delays and use an alternative route if possible.

  • Domain Road/Tara Road intersection: Construction activity for the Tauranga Eastern Link continues. A permanent 50km/h speed restriction is in place. Motorists are advised to take care when driving through the area.

  • Fraser Street: Southern Pipeline trenching work between Maleme Street and Memorial Park is almost finished. Work is continuing on manholes, valves and short pipe connections with little traffic disruption expected. Please take care when passing work sites. There is full access to Fraser Cove.

  • Parton Road: Construction activity for the Tauranga Eastern Link continues. A temporary 30km/hr speed restriction is in place Monday - Saturday from 6am to 6pm. A manual stop/go control will be used when large trucks need to cross Parton Road. Expect minor delays and please take care when driving in the area.

  • State Highway 2 (Te Maunga to Domain Road): Construction activity for the Tauranga Eastern Link continues. A long term temporary 80km/hr speed restriction is in place from Te Maunga to Domain Road until further notice. Please take care and stay alert when driving through this area.

  • Tara Road: Construction of the new roundabout at the Parton Road intersection continues. A manual stop/go control will be in place at times this week as the new road is prepared for sealing. Watch for the new road layout and please take extra care when driving in the area.

  • Ultrafast Broadband: Work to install Ultrafast Broadband in Elizabeth Street, Grey Street and Devonport Road is underway. Most of the work is being done off the road and at night. The Ultrafast Broadband project is a central government initiative. More information about the project is available at www.ultrafastbroadband.co.nz or call 0800 342 735.

really all it does is stop people and wind from moving it around but the sea will take it when it wants to and has done in the pastand the plants will do nothing to stop it
