Merivale shops road works begin

The Tauranga City Council is advising work to upgrade pedestrian crossings, install new roundabouts and reseal a section of Fraser Street in the area around the Merivale shops is underway.

A temporary 30km/h speed restriction is in place and delays are expected.

The work is expected to take about four weeks to complete.

Parks

  • Tree species weed control is programmed to be carried out in Faulkner Park during the next month.
  • Vegetation weed control in progress in Taipari Street reserve adjacent to new walkway.
  • Tom Muir Reserve undergoing site preparation for planting in autumn.
  • Bamboo control work in progress on Kingswood Road Reserve.
  • A small drainage job is being undertaken at Selwyn Park this week. It involves installing subsoil drainage between the playground and tennis courts.

Transportation

  • Annual Resealing Programme: Resealing continues on various streets around the city in the annual reseal programme.
  • Cambridge Road: Work to upgrade Cambridge Road between Miles Lane and River Oak Drive is underway. Please expect delays and use an alternative route if possible.
  • Courtney Road: The final resurfacing will be done in two weeks' time, weather permitting.
  • Domain Road: Work to install a new pedestrian refuge island at Topaz Drive reserve is underway. Please take care when driving through the work area.
  • Fraser Street: Fraser Street between 16th Avenue and 18th Avenue is due to be resealed this week. The work will be done at night and will take about two nights to complete.
  • Mount Maunganui: The following roads will be closed on Sunday 19 February from 6am until midday for the Women's Real Triathlon event - Salisbury Avenue, The Mall, Adams Avenue, and Marine Parade. Tweed Street and Oceanbeach Road are not affected.
  • SH29 between the Maungatapu Bridge and the Maungatapu Roundabout: Resealing work will take place on 13 and 14 February between 9am and 4pm. A detour through Maungatapu will be in place for traffic heading east (away from Welcome Bay). Traffic heading towards Welcome Bay will be traffic managed through the construction area. Please expect delays and use an alternative route if possible.
  • Streetlight Upgrade: Work to upgrade the streetlights in Bristol Avenue, Grosmont Terrace and Lorna Place will start this week. Please watch for signs and drive carefully in these streets.
  • Ultrafast Broadband: Work to install Ultrafast Broadband is being done in Greerton, Judea, Sulphur Point, and the industrial & residential areas around Golf Road to Tay Street at the Mount. Most of the work is being done off the road. The Ultrafast Broadband project is a central government initiative. City Waters

  • Maintenance work has started on water supply pipe bridges in the Oropi area. This involves cleaning and repainting and will be completed by the end of February.
