Incumbent Sandra Goudie has won the Thames-Coromandel mayoralty by nearly 3000 votes.
With voting closed today at midday, progress results show that Sandra has won with 6446 votes, compared to mayoral rivals Len Salt with 3475 and Ben Parsons with 701.
These progress results don't include today's voting and the special votes, which are being sent to Wellington to be verified and counted. Preliminary results including today's voting will be released tomorrow morning. The final result will be announced by about Thursday October 17.
Eight councillors have been elected to the council. John Morrissey has been elected to the Coromandel-Colville ward. Murray McLean and Tony Fox, with only one vote difference between them, have been elected to the Mercury Bay ward. Gary Gotlieb and Terry Walker have successfully won council seats representing the South Eastern ward, and Sally Christie, Martin Rodley and Alison Choppin have been elected to the Thames ward.
The community boards also have successfully elected members. Jan Autumn, Jean Ashby, Peter Pritchard and Kim Brett have been elected to the Coromandel-Colville Community Board. Rekha Giri-Percival, Jeremy Lomas, Deli Connell and Bill McLean have been elected to the Mercury Bay Community Board.
Warwick Brooks, Barry Swindles, Anne Stewart Bell and Chris New were automatically elected to the Tairua-Pauanui Community Board, as they ran unopposed.
Strat Peters, Cherie Staples, Sheryll Fitzpatrick and Peter Revell have been elected to the Thames Community Board.
Dave Ryan, Ken Coulam, Kay Baker and Tamzin Letele have been elected to the Whangamata Community Board.
The current elected members remain in office until the day after the declaration of final results is publicly notified. This official notification will be published on October 19, although issues such as recounts could affect this timing.
The new term's elected members will be sworn in on October 31.
