Cordons in place after crash in Welcome Bay

UPDATE: 10:27pm Diversions remain in place on Welcome Bay Road this evening after a serious crash.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a cyclist and vehicle have collided on Welcome Bay Road.

"Police and St John Paramedics are at the scene.

"It looks like the road is blocked. People should probably avoid it if they can."

A witness at the scene says the crash is located between Waitaha Road and James Cook Drive.

"There were three ambulances at the scene and four police officers, along with multiple other people.

"Cars are doing u-turns to try and get around the scene."

A police spokesperson says police are responding to a report of a crash at 7.08pm on Welcome Bay Rd involving car v cyclist.

"One person has sustained serious injuries.

"Cordons are in place between James Cook Drive and Waitaha Road.
