Getting swabbed for COVID-19

Haydn Marriner and his cousin Matatia Brell go through the testing centre in Tauranga.

Ever wondered what it would be like to get a COVID-19 swab taken?

Well, wonder no more. Intrepid Rotorua Now columnist Haydn Marriner and his cousin Matatia Brell took the test a few days ago at Baypark in Tauranga after a fellow kiwifruit packhouse worker tested positive for the virus.

The pair have been living in their own small bubble in Matata and took the test after showing some "flu-like symptoms".

Haydn says the experience was "uncomfortable" but not painful and was surprised so many people had watched their video on Facebook.

"It was all very professional, we now have to take five days off work until we get the full test results."

He says he hopes the video will break down the process for the average person and show that it's not scary at all.

Watch the video above to see what the process is like.
