There are three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand today.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield and Jacinda Ardern are providing a COVID-19 update this afternoon.

One of the new cases is linked to an existing case, and the other two are still under investigation.

Ashley says there have been no further deaths.

There are seven people in New Zealand hospitals, and none are in ICU.

An earlier probable case had been reclassified as not a case, he says.

The total of both confirmed and probable cases in New Zealand is 1476.

Of those, 1241 cases are now recovered. This is about 84 per cent of the cases in New Zealand.

Ashley says there are no additional cases among the 16 clusters.

He says there was a significant increase in testing yesterday, with 5867 tests performed.

"Our new total of tests is 134,570."

Ashley encourages anyone who has received routine health reminders - such as smear tests and childhood immunisation - to seek that care.

"I encourage everybody, if you do get a reminder, please go and get that care.”

Earlier: Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield will provide a COVID-19 update at 1pm.

Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported in New Zealand on Wednesday - one confirmed case and one probable case.

The confirmed case is linked to overseas travel, while the probable case is a close contact to an existing case.

Ashley said they have also reclassified an existing probable case as a confirmed case.

This case was reported back in April.

There were no additional deaths to report on Wednesday.

Six people were in hospital, and no-one was reported to be in ICU.

Yesterday the total number of confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand was 1474.

Of those cases, 1229 had recovered. That is 83 per cent of the cases in New Zealand.
