UPDATE: There are no new cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand on the first day of Alert Level 1.

"We are confident we have eliminated community transmission of the virus here in New Zealand," Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield says at the briefing today.

The last reported new case of COVID-19 in this country was on May 22.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, New Zealand has reported 1504 confirmed and probable cases. Of these, 1482 have recovered and 22 have died.

Ashley says strict border restrictions will need to remain.

From today, people in managed isolation will not be allowed to apply for exemptions to attend funerals and tangihanga.

They will still be able to apply for leave on compassionate grounds to be with a small group of people before or after the event.

Director-General of Health, Dr Ashley Bloomfield will be live from Wellington today to deliver the latest update on the COVID-19 response in New Zealand.

On Monday, it was announced that NZ no longer has any active cases of the virus.

The Ministry of Health was notified by Auckland Regional Public Health that its remaining case has been symptom free for 48 hours and is regarded as recovered.

The person has now been released from isolation.

Their case had been linked to the St Margaret's Hospital & Rest Home cluster in Auckland.

'This is really good news for the person concerned, and it's also something the rest of New Zealand can take heart from,” says Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield.

'Having no active cases for the first time since February 28 is certainly a significant mark in our journey but as we've previously said, ongoing vigilance against COVID-19 will continue to be essential."
