5pm update: Emergency services have been involved in an ongoing effort to extricate a vehicle that went into the water following a crash earlier on State Highway 30 near Lake Rotoma, Rotorua.
The single-vehicle collision was reported around 12.40pm.
The Police Dive Squad is due to arrive tomorrow morning to assist with the operation.
A scene guard will be in place overnight.
"We are not able to ascertain the number of occupants in the vehicle at this stage," says a Police spokesperson.
Further information will be provided when it becomes available.
Earlier, 1.41pm:
Emergency services are responding to an incident involving a single-vehicle collision on State Highway 30.
The crash was reported at 12.40pm.
It is unknown at this stage whether there are any injuries.
It is understood that the road is still open but the layby is closed.
A SunLive reporter at the scene says that traffic is able to pass and that the Serious Crash Unit are investigating.

We dont seen to hear what is the cause of these one car accidents.Does NZTA have a record of it to know how to manage it?
