One new case of COVID-19 today

There is one new case of COVID-19 in managed isolation in New Zealand today.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield provided a COVID-19 update at 1pm today from the Ora Toa Cannons Creek Medical Centre CBAC in Porirua.

The new case is a man in his 20s who arrived in New Zealand on July 30 from Melbourne.

Ashley says the man who was in isolation at the Grand Millenium tested negative on day three of testing, but returned a positive test on day 12.

This emphasises the importance of testing twice in the 14 day isolation period, he says.

There are now 22 active cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation and quarantine facilities. None of these cases are receiving hospital level care.

The total number of confirmed cases is 1220.

There were 1874 tests completed yesterday.

Ashley says he plans to take a COVID-19 test today after being recommended to by Ora Toa clinical director Sean Hanna.

There were no new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand yesterday.

It has been 101 days since the last case of COVID-19 was acquired locally from an unknown source.

Two additional cases were reported as having recovered, so there are now 21 active cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation facilities, says the Ministry of Health.

New Zealand's total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 remains at 1219.

"There is no one currently requiring hospital-level care for COVID-19.

"Yesterday, our laboratories processed 2125 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 496,606. There were 1134 swabs taken in managed isolation and quarantine facilities yesterday."
