A power box catching alight in Welcome Bay has caused a power outage this evening.

Welcome Bay resident Blayze Waddicor says that power went out to most of Forrester Dr while an electrical team went to work to fix it.

'Electrical fire on power box by footpath near Tye Park in Welcome Bay at approximately 5.45pm this evening,” says Blayze in a message to SunLive.

'Power is out on most of Forrester Drive as four electrical vans and workers are trying to fix the situation.”

At 9.30pm there are no reported power outages according to Powerco.
