8 imported COVID-19 cases, 1 in community

There are nine new cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand today – eight in managed isolation and one close household contact of a previous case.

Dr Bloomfield and Minister of Health Chris Hipkins provided the COVID-19 update this afternoon.

The one new community case is a close household contact of one of the cases from the marine employee cluster.

Seven of the cases in managed isolation involve fishing crew in the Christchurch Sudima facility, says Dr Bloomfield.

The group tested positive on day six testing.

The last case in managed isolation travelled from Iran via Dubai on October 19.

There are now 66 active cases in New Zealand, and a total of 1567 confirmed cases.

Yesterday, New Zealand labs completed 6053 tests.

The Minister of Health Chris Hipkins urged those to be vigilant over the long weekend.

'Keep yourself and community safe by being COVID conscious.”

People are urged to continue use of the COVID tracer app, and stay home if they are sick or showing symptoms.

There were two new cases of COVID-19 at the border in New Zealand yesterday.

The first of these cases arrived on October 19 from the Netherlands via Dubai, and the second arrived on October 21 from Doha.

Dr Bloomfield says they were both tested on arrival as they had developed symptoms during the flight, and were transported straight to managed isolation.
