A person has been taken into custody following an incident at Tauriko.

Police received a report of a person seen with what was thought to be a firearm on SH29 at Tauriko about 1.45pm.

"Police located the person/vehicle involved and it appears to have been a BB gun," says a Police spokesperson.

"Someone has been taken into custody but there are no charges at this stage."
