There are reports of a truck and car collision on the Kaimai Range near Omanawa.
The vehicle collision has occurred on SH29 near Ruahihi Rd.
It is unknown if there are any injuries.
A SunLive reader says that traffic is building up on SH2 between Bethlehem and Te Puna as a result of a traffic taking a detour from SH29 through to SH2.

The Police don't get it

The Police really don't get it!! They need to change their approach used during Public Holidays. Stop enforcing the ludicrous reduced tolerance, remove such a strong focus on policing and see if the accidents drop. Maybe if drivers were allowed to keep their eyes on the road instead of on their speedometer, there may be fewer crashes. It's strange how there is often an increase in Road accidents during reduced tolerance periods!! Or is it just an easy opportunity for the Police to top up their coffers?
I disagree Professor

I travelled South over the kaimais and down through tokoroa etc and through fog then heavy rain I saw at least ten absolute idiots at speed do some terrifying passing manoeuvres luckily with no crashes. No cops unfortunately saw this. On the return trip I was disappointed to see a group of muscle cars around turangi going very fast, particularly the leading mustang racing a motorbike with centrifugal force causing the bike to end up in my lane as he cornered. I've never seen idiotic behaviour on a cruise like that. Went to rotorua today, not one speeder and everyone travelling nicely
