The pedestrian hit on Fraser Street this afternoon is a student from Tauranga Intermediate.
The principal Cameron Mitchell posted on the school's Facebook Page saying a Tauranga Intermediate student was involved in an accident after school near the Fraser Street gate.
'Their Whanau have been informed and are with their child at hospital. Our thoughts are with all concerned.”
A St John spokesperson says they were notified of the incident at 3.08pm and one ambulance responded.
A person in a critical condition has been transported to Tauranga Hospital, she says.
Police have advised the northbound lane of Fraser Street reopened at 5.30pm, after being closed between Eighteenth Ave and Brook Street.
EARLIER 3.50pm: A person is in a critical condition after a crash between a car and a pedestrian on Fraser Street.

EARLIER 3.44pm: Police are responding to a serious crash involving a car and a pedestrian in Tauranga.
The crash occurred on Fraser Street about 3.10pm.
Fraser Street between Eighteenth Avenue and Brook Street is closed, says a statement from Police.
"Motorists are asked to avoid the area, if possible."
EARLIER: There are reports coming in of a serious traffic incident on Fraser Street.
A SunLive reader states that the road appears to be closed in the vicinity of Tauranga Intermediate School.
'There is one police car blocking traffic heading down from Fraser Cove.”
The caller states that they can see at least four police cars on the scene.

The speed of morons on this road needs to be closely monitored and enforced. Under no circumstances am I saying speed was at fault here because I DO NOT KNOW. What I am saying is that this is a high speed area with some real morons and idiots that need s good hefty charge from the courts. Thoughts are with the victim, the family and friends and the driver.
