I am worried that our current government is spending way too much time on changing rules; pushing through ill-thought out legislations, rather than concentrating on the general ‘house-keeping' of the country.
One of the most recent is the proposed regulation of our free speech laws, with increased penalties for hate speech of a maximum fine of up to $50,000 or three years' imprisonment.
Wake up Kiwis, or maybe one day we will find we have become another Hong Kong.
I hope I am not fined or gaoled for voicing my concerns.

Hate Speech

Or in this case the speech the lefty/socialists hate to hear! the question you should really be asking is who will decide what is hate speech, we now have most media in the governments pocket with all the money they have funnelled into outlets to keep them 'on side a good example is John Tamihere accusing David Seymour on stuff but refusing Seymour a right of reply, walking into dangerous ground when only 1 side gets a say and it is obvious in New Zealand we have 2 divided sides who both should be heard.
You certainly have

a vivid imagination crazyhorse. Tamahere was writing an opinion piece, no one gets an automatic right of reply, heaven forbid it could go on for generations just like your opinion pieces have. To answer your question and that of the writer of this letter. We the people decide what is hate and what is not. We vote for those who will enact as close as possible our will. Those who want the freedom to insult, denigrate and marginalise get the same opportunity that we do. Remember your latest hero, Seymour has far more media coverage than Tamahere does.
Simply asking a question

And that question was, who decides what is hate speech? and, what is not? here Stuff media has decided, that is not the people, it is lefty woke journalism pushing their own ideology, anyone who thinks the general public will be making a judgement on hate speech is in "La La land not New Zealand!
Not so simple,

Crazyhorse. If the people of NZ are as dogmatic as you and your friends, then surely they can demand change via the polling booth. The reason we don't is because hate speech is just that, Hate. Free speech is a right, but we don't have the right you want, that is to provoke a response that can then be used to further repression of minority rights. Get used to the fact that the general public are not as dumb as you right wing extremists think. By the way WOKE MEANS TO BE AWARE, and we are. Yet another word stolen from a minority group and used against them, by inadequate extremists.
