UPDATE: There are 201 new cases of Covid-19 being reported in the community today.
Director of Public Health Dr Caroline McElnay says 181 of these are in Auckland, 15 are in the Waikato and four are in Northland.
"There is one in the Taranaki area.
"Last night's five cases will be included in tomorrow's numbers."
There is one case being reported in MIQ today.
Dr McElnay says there are 85 people in hospital and three people are still being assessed.
She says 11 people are in ICU or HDU.
"We are very aware of the grief that whanau are experiecing following the loss of a loved one to Covid-19. This is a serious virus and none of us can afford to underestimate it.
"If you or your loved ones are being cared for in the community and you feel yours or their condition is deteriorating, don't leave it to chance that you will improve.
"This is the advice given to everyone who is being cared for in the community.
"Hospital care is free and ambulance services are free for those with Covid-19. Our hospitals are ready to help and have robust Infection, Prevention and Control measures in place to keep people safe.
"People have died this week and that is tragic for their friends and family. This is a very real reminder that the more people who get Covid-19, the more deaths we are likely to see. It is also a sad reminder that Covid-19 is potentially fatal, and this is particularly true if you're unvaccinated."
