The public were yesterday invited to put forward their ideas for the playground that will complete the waterfront development project.
It was a slow start to the public playground design workshop, with no ideas proposed until after 11am due to the gloomy morning weather.
People gathered at the waterfront to discuss a future playground. Photo: Daniel Hines.
But parents and children soon arrived to take a closer look at the nearly completed playground project.
Although the park is in the heart of the CBD, with no other child focused activities nearby apart from the adjacent water feature, some parents say a playground is a playground.
Tauranga mother Lisa Kirkpatrick says she likes the idea of a playground for children as she is a bit of a fan herself.
The idea of swings facing the waterfront reminds her of her childhood.
'It's giving kids the idea that they are going over the water.”
Another Tauranga mother said the intended playground's location beside the train tracks did not bother her as it could be a fun feature for the children.
'Kids like seeing trains go past.”

Wake up mate! smell the roses they tell you all you need to know if you care to "see" and learn should you take the time to hear rather than pretend to listen.
