LIVE: Omicron response update

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield and Ministry of Health Primary Care Lead Dr Joe Bourne will give an update on the response to the Omicron outbreak at 1pm.

As well as an update on the country's response, the pair are also expected to announce the latest case numbers.

On Wednesday, more than 22,000 cases were reported by the Ministry of Health.

In the Bay of Plenty, there were 1270 cases and 415 are in the Lakes District.

According to the latest numbers from Toi Te Ora Public Health, there were 8805 active Covid cases in the BOP and Lakes areas.

Of those numbers, 1468 are in the WBOP, 4456 are in Tauranga City, 105 are in Kawerau, 501 are in Whakatane and 88 are in Opotiki.

Toi Te Ora says there is 1659 in the Rotorua distict and 520 in Taupo.
