A basic civil right

To have government-imposed management of a local body is outrageous in a modern Western society. The people of any community should be able to elect their preferred representatives. They may not prove perfect in some people's minds but they are accountable for their decisions and can be replaced in due course. That is a basic civil right. The imposition of Commissioners to undertake the wishes of a few who believe they know best or have a vested interest in the decisions is oppressive. The only groups wishing to have Commissioners running Tauranga are those who believe they will make money from their decisions. That is despotic.
