Unconstitutional in the worst way

I am upset with the Commission running Tauranga. We, the people, have written to the newspapers and others with our complaints about our loss of our right to democracy for elections in our City. I believe that the Commission has no legal or physical right to unilaterally decide against the majority of our, the people's rights, for fair and legal representation of councillors in Tauranga and surrounds. I cannot sit still and let the Commissioners rule Tauranga as dictators while their sole purpose was to restore order after the sacking of the former council. This purpose has been achieved.

There is no earthly reason for the Commission not to resign and reinstate our legal right to a democratically-held, elected council. Depriving us of our right to duly hold elections of officials is unconstitutional in the worst way. We have had no say in this Commission postponing our official elections until 2024. This was announced in an absolute undemocratic way. The commission has not consulted the people of Tauranga and are now running roughshod over all the people's concerns. There is no way I can be convinced this is legal. We have to stop this Commission from continuing in this undemocratic way. I am 86 years old and I do not consider myself of an age to achieve this. Please let us do something!

To the letter writer, you may not agree with the current situation being extended but so many of us do. We think, at this time, this is the nest for Tauranga. It is interesting to read so many complaints about the loss of democracy when one knows Tauranga holds one of the lowest voter turnouts in the country, both for local and national elections. On those figures, it is obvious, the vast majority do not care about either their democratic rights or the future of the city.
