I am astounded that the current political landscape in Tauranga is compared to communist countries. ‘Democracy' meant Tauranga was stuck in the 1990s, managed by a bunch of petulant toddlers, who subsequently received a humiliating public spanking from the Government.
Since the appointment of the Commissioners, infrastructure and businesses are finally getting the attention it deserves – and yes, it costs money unfortunately. The same spanked toddlers are now the most vocal opponents of the Commissioners, crying for ‘democracy' to be restored. Forget it, ‘democracy' failed Tauranga for too long. Welcome to the 21st Century, Tauranga.

.....the councillors as we know were indeed sending the city in an ever decreasing spiral of very likely not recoverable or achievable goals...but....with the introduction of commissioners ( which to be fair I agreed with) there seems little intention of restoring democracy as we would like to know it by way of setting rules ans compliance requirements for newly elected officials....not simply by taking over in a very government partisan way as we have now.
