Power box “exploded” in Pāpāmoa say residents

There are still 59 properties in Pāpāmoa without power following equipment being damaged on Monday morning.

PowerCo advise that power to properties in Pāpāmoa was cut at 7.05am.

A resident living near to a power box on Pāpāmoa Beach Road says that the box "exploded" at 6.30am.

"It was a blown junction, a real mess," says another Pāpāmoa Beach Road resident, who says that locals had seen sparks like fireworks with power going off at around 6.40am.

PowerCo estimate that power will be restored by 2pm.

There is also a power outage in Omanawa with 219 properties affected.

Power went out at Omanawa at 11.29am. A site investigation is underway and power is estimated to be restored by 3.30pm.

Guess the power was off hosing water onto an electrical fire. I nice mess to clean up . The underground supply boxes often near driveways get hit by vehicles often .
