Person found safe following Mount house fire

6.30pm update: Fire emergency services are still at the scene of a house fire in Mount Maunganui this evening, where the fire has been extinguished with fire fighters monitoring for any hot spots.

Concerns were initially raised for the safety of a person at the house, however they have now been found to be safe and well.

Orkney Road and Tweed Street have been closed while fire fighters attend the scene.

Fire services were called to the house fire shortly after 4pm, with three fire trucks arriving to find it well involved.

Earlier, 4.37pm: Emergency services are at the scene of a house fire in Mount Maunganui where there is concern for one person's safety.

Fire and Emergency NZ received a call regarding a house fire on Orkney Road shortly after 4pm.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Josh Pennefather says the house is well involved but contained to one property.

"There is concern for one person."

There are three fire trucks in attendance at the property.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says local residents in the area are being evacuated.

"Orkney Rd and Tweed St area are closed.

"A lot of black smoke at low level, and locals are recommended to close windows."
