Fire emergency services are attending the fire of an uninhabited house in Gate Pa.
Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Josh Pennefather says they received a call to a house fire at a property in Ward Street at approximately 4.10pm.
"The fire was well involved on arrival," says Josh. "It's an uninhabited two-storey house.
"We sent three fire trucks."
Fire fighters contained the fire to the one property.
Police say that the house is reportedly a vacant property.
"It sounds like there may have previously been fires at the same house," says a Police spokesperson.
A SunLive reader and local resident at the scene also says that the house has had a previous fire.
"FENZ has requested Council assistance with traffic control," says a Police spokesperson.
FENZ shift manager Josh Pennefeather says a decision about a fire investigator attending the scene has not yet been made.
"The fire has been extinguished and we are working on hot spots at the moment."
