CEO contract talks rescheduled

The planned council meeting on Tuesday to discuss contract details of the city's interim CEO Leigh Auton is re-scheduled for Thursday.

The meeting, delayed due to an administrative error, will now take place at 9am on Thursday.

A extra-ordinary council meeting to discuss contract details of interim CEO Leigh Auton will now take place on Thursday.

The extra-ordinary council meeting originally planned for Tuesday afternoon, had to be dropped because of a technical error in the agenda. It was corrected, but not within the statutorily required 24 window.

It meant that if held on Tuesday, council decisions made at the meeting could be legally challenged.

The meeting is to discuss the contract details of interim city CEO Leigh Auton. Leigh was appointed as CEO on July 30, but until the council agrees to his terms of employment, including salary package – deputy CEO Christine Jones technically remains acting chief executive.

Leigh's been hired specifically to resume the restructuring work begun by previous CEO Ken Paterson.

Ken died suddenly on June 17.

Leigh is being hired on a fixed term contract, instead of the normal five year term. During its term he will act as the chief executive while Christine Jones reverts to deputy chief executive.

More amazing Councillor antics

Why not just leave the deputy CEO in the acting CEO position until a new appointment is made? This looks to me an extraordinarily expensive way to do anything. Fancy someone starting work before the contract is sorted out. Come on councillors, get this sorted at least expense for a change.

Sounds like yet another consultant to me?

Can we be told the cost of hiring this interim person as opposed to just keeping the acting CEO on for 6 months. Amazed that councillors hire someone who starts work without all the contract being finalised? Ummmmm.
