Councils to join forces

Amalgamating city and district staff and operations is going to become a regular feature of joint governance committee agendas in the future.

The Joint Governance Committee, an amalgamation of Tauranga City Council and Western Bay of Plenty District councillors, has decided to look at how the two councils can work together more closely and more efficiently.

Councillor Garry Webber says it doesn't make sense for the two council's working in the same regions to have separate policies on items like dog control.

He also suggested there are policy and planning areas where it is more efficient and practical to have one set of rules.

At a council meeting this week committee members showed support for the move and recommended the parent councils set up a staff taskforce to look at areas that can be combined for presentation to the joint governance committee.

As a joint sub-committee of the two councils, the Joint Governance Committee has to pass its recommendations back to its parent councils for ratification before there is any action.

Speakup, this actually means that there will be more officials employed, more committees and yet another building to fill up with wanton waste and indulgence, the RORT of ratepayers continues but just in yet another new found means, i.e. the Auckland Super City concept has nto provided any respite for ratepayers there and will not provide anything here either.

Probably working on the theory if you throw up an "amalgamation' smokescreen you can hide most of the dirty linen under the carpet and muddy the waters sufficiently to deflect the critics.A joint governance(TCC would not know the meaning of that word)committee now there is something to marvel at and chuck money at - wonder who came up with that concept ??????

Western Bay ratepayers will love to help bearing the burden of TCC ratepayers capital debt and we should welcome them. The ruralites won't put up with the crap the city slickers do !!
