I had an old Laser printer that I needed to dispose of, so I tried to find an e-waste site in the Bay of Plenty – none! As I had nothing else to go to the tip, I did not want to pay general waste price.
I was going to Auckland so I took the printer with me and dropped it off at e-waste in Onehunga for a charge of $10, knowing it would be stripped down and the components would be used again – there are so many electronic items that should not go to general waste tip.
Also many councils have recycling stations at their tips for furniture, garden pots etc to be collected and then sold at a small price so the item does not go to landfill. Why is this not possible in Tauranga? I have watched a few programmes on TV where old furniture has been sold at the recycling centres and for a few hours work, rejuvenated into something useful.
