Its winter tournament week across the nation, and Aquinas College's premier one netball team has been performing, taking third place in the Upper North Island Secondary Schools competition.

Karen Guise, who describes herself as 'one of the teachers in charge of netball at Aquinas College” says the premier team has had an 'awesome week”.

'The girls are in Auckland for the Upper North Island Secondary Schools competition, and they are automatically going up a grade as they are in the top five.” says Karen.

'They have placed third place overall in the competition after a nail biter of a semi final against Gisborne Girls High School, which is an outstanding result. They are just buzzing.

'Ten full games in five days have been massive for the girls. To win their last game is such a fabulous way for the team to finish."

Karen says a 'legendary start” to the tournament took place on Monday with a stunning win over Auckland's Selwyn College at 46-8 and Rotorua's Western Heights at 50-30.

'It was a battle to get the win on Tuesday morning against a feisty Fraser High. Down at half time, the Aquinas College fighting spirit shone through, and the girls came away with the win at 27-23. It was brilliant stuff!

'The girls have come off the back of a really great season, performing well against some superb opposition. We feel very proud of them, Aquinas being a much smaller school than many of our competitors around the region,” says Karen.

'We have awesome coaches and supporters, and most of these premier netball girls give back by either coaching or umpiring in the lower grades.

'The success this year is part of the overall and ongoing success and positive culture of netball at the college, with growing numbers of players at all year levels.

'The super team spirit is evident. Our touchstones of joy and family are well and truly on display too. There was enthusiastic support from the sideline by the subs and myself. Big ups to the coach Erin Verhoeven, and manager Maria Mooney and Theresa Price!"
