Re: ‘Do we really need Royalty' (The Weekend Sun, September 30).Ken Jones asks 'do we really need Royalty?” He believes we have an 'elected government to run the country”.
My answer is yes – absolutely – we definitely need our historical British Royalty as Head of State.
What are the alternatives?
NZ does not have a Constitution, only Acts of Parliament. These Acts can be repealed if they become unsuitable.
If NZ discarded Royalty as Head of State then there's a very real, and dangerous possibility of co-governance and partnership, based on the false version of the Treaty of Waitangi.
This would amount to a country being run on race and we would become an apartheid, third world country.

Discarding Royalty?

Do we not already have a government whose whole agenda is based on race? As to becoming a third world country, New Zealand is already being referred to in some circles as the nascent Pacific Zimbabwe.
