Western Bay of Plenty jobseekers who are interested in exploring different kinds of jobs can strap on a headset and do so through virtual reality next week.

Ministry of Social Development has joined forces with Toi Ohomai – Te Pūkenga to host a ‘Spring into Work Hiring and Recruitment Day' in Tauranga at Toi Ohomai – Te Pūkenga, Windermere Drive Campus, H Building - Atrium Restaurant.

VR is an innovative and fun way of connecting jobseekers to local employers and giving people a taste of work in various industries through simulating actual tasks.

From 9.30am to 2pm on Wednesday, October 19, VR users can explore different jobs and career paths.

They will also be able to complete their Site Safe Passport, an industry recognised health and safety certification for anyone wanting to work in construction or infrastructure.

Healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, horticulture, and hospitality employers will be on hand during the day to talk about work opportunities in their industries.

Anyone keen on study can take a campus tour at 11am and 3pm.

Bay of Plenty Social Development regional commissioner Mike Bryant says MSD is committed to supporting local business owners find people for their workplace.

'MSD offers a range of services to help employers with their recruitment needs.

'The recruitment day is free to attend so just pop down.”

The Spring into Work Hiring and Recruitment Day is one of three hosted across the Bay of Plenty during October.
