The aprons are on, and the paint brushes out as the children at BestStart Judea think outside the box to create masterpieces to showcase at their annual art exhibition.

Centre manager Nicola Finlay says the children have been hard at work creating both traditional two-dimensional and three-dimensional paintings.

Papier mâché and plants are also being used to create art that will take pride of place at the exhibition.

The exhibition will showcase up to three pieces of work from around 80 kids which will be displayed for parents and families to enjoy on Thursday, October 27, at BestStart Judea.

'Art supports children's fine motor skills and problem-solving ability, so it's been wonderful to give them the opportunity to explore their creativity with different materials,” says Nicola.

'We've extended it out into nature, and one of our teachers is helping the kids build more sculptural work with natural resources.”

She says the joy on the children's faces when they point their work out to their parents is beautiful to watch.

'They're always so delighted to show off what they've created. It makes me proud of them and all their hard work,” says Nicola.

'We'll have teachers on hand during the exhibition to chat with parents about the learning behind creating the works of art. It's also an opportunity for parents thinking of enrolling their child into BestStart Judea to have a look at the centre and ask any questions if they are thinking about enrolling.”

BestStart Judea has three rooms to accommodate the different ages and stages of the children attending – The Koru Room for under-twos, Paua Room for 2 to 3 ½ year olds and Pounamu Room for 3½ to children starting school.

There is a large outdoor area for the children to explore and extend their learning and development. A partnership with the local rest brings two generations together with the children going on regular visits.

The art exhibition will be held at BestStart Judea on Thursday, October 27, from 6-7pm.

'We are looking forward to sharing our children's creations with you,” says Nicola.
