Tauranga pool closures

The Otumoetai Pool is currently closed due to a broken pump causing the temperature to drop below the required degree.

Tauranga City Council says the pool is expected to be closed until at least Tuesday while a new bore recharge pump is sourced and installed after the other one was destroyed when it became full of little stones.

A fault in the bore pump was reported on Friday causing the pool to continue to decrease in temperature.

Contractors pulled the pump from underground on Saturday where it was discovered it had become full of stones breaking the pump shaft and destroying the pump unit.

TCC advises the best possible outcome is for the pools to reopen on Tuesday, or Wednesday.

Greerton Aquatic Centre will also be closed next month while scheduled maintenance is undertaken.

The centre on Kiteroa Street will close from September 17 to October 12 for pool re-painting and a facility 'refresh”.

Greerton pool members will be able to use their memberships at Otumoetai pool and Baywave in the meantime.

Tauranga City Council advises that the Clubfit facilities will remain open throughout this period.

Meanwhile Mount Hot Pools is currently undergoing re-roofing.

TCC reports these works will be completed by October 2012, depending on the weather.

THE REAL DEAL

The pump issue is minor, the real issue is the stability of the land that the pool resides on, it is known to TCC that it is unstable and the pool structure will sooner or later crack and leak a significant portion of the content. That will possibly provide the necessary lubricant for the downhill actor to kick in.

any pools left

They run 5 pools. Potentially assuming a few things (pump issues are never a quick as fix) this will mean that come Sept 18, they will have 3 closed, 1 with a dodgy roof, and 1 left fully operational.. A lovely ratio

Destroying Pool pumps seem to be a specialty with this lot and they all seem to have stones in them(heads included) .Mount Hotpools is not crash hot either so it will be next on the list.Really you just have to despair !!
