Hayden had counselling about his role as a Tauranga City Councillor in December 2008 and February this year, says Mayor Stuart Crosby.

He was replying to Hayden Evan's statement yesterday, when he denied the mayor ever tried to help him behind the scenes.
The first meeting in December was attended by Mayor Stuart Crosby, Deputy Mayor David Stewart, and Councillor Rick Curach who was there to support Hayden.
'At this meeting we talked about how to approach staff, how to seek information, and the code of practice that councillors work under,” says Stuart.
'The second meeting, because that one didn't prove to be terribly satisfactory, was a more formal meeting on February 2.
'Mainly we spoke about approaching staff and also about the leadership role within council and what is expected of a councillor.
'I spoke about his right to have all the information he required at both these meetings, and that it wasn't appropriate to secretly record conversations.
'What I said is correct. We had meetings about his manner and demeanour. For everything I have said I can supply supporting evidence.”
