The Oruahine track on Mauao is closed today.

Access to the summit of Mauao will still be possible via the Waikorire and Motukauri tracks.

The closure of the Oruahine track runs from 7am - 5pm on Wednesday March 29.

"To help keep the maunga in good shape, there will be a track closure in place while the team undertake vegetation management," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"Signage and barriers will be in place at the closure points."

Council says in between wet weather and hot days it has been a big summer for Mauao, requiring necessary management of vegetation and growth.

If works cannot take place today, a backup day of Thursday, March 30, will be in place.
