Heading: Re: ‘A no-sense roundabout' (Letters page 21, The Weekend Sun March 31 edition). K Moorland asks the question why a roundabout at Morton Rd, Katikati, before a roundabout at Omokoroa Rd. The reason I was given is that roundabouts slow traffic down, roundabouts on State highway 2 have been constructed at Tetley Rd, Morton Rd, and are being constructed at Matahui Rd, Pahoia Rd, to come is Sharp Rd. This makes five – and all before the most dangerous intersection at Omokoroa Rd.

Weird priorities

I'd like to put my 2c in for another neglected intersection that needs a roundabout yet nowhere in the rush to roundabout has it been mentioned - Cambridge Road and SH29. Turning right out of Cambridge Rd into SH29 is so dangerous that a lot of people instead turn left and use the Tauriko roundabout to turn round and come back up SH29. This adds to traffic at Tauriko but also means more traffic along SH29 that right turning traffic has to give way to. The turns are very tight and you have to go from 0 to 80km/h in about 3 seconds or you'll be mown down by a truck up your backside. I'm sure council/NZTA think the new Bethlehem bypass will fix things but we know things never work out that way.
Absolutely agree Captian Hottie!!

This Cambridge Rd and SH29 intersection is an 'accident looking for somewhere to happen' - how can the 'powers that be' (NZTA and TGA council) have left this without attention for sooo long, it's criminal!. Surely, just throw up some traffic lights for a quick fix, (while they ponder what to do for the next 10 years) before there are more misjudgments and crashes, drivers should NEVER be in the position of having to second guess what another driver is going to do, which is the case at this intersection - Tauranga's most neglected and dangerous intersection!
